Impact of CMS Step Therapy Reform on Patient Access

The Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research (APCR) is the exclusive organization representing the physician research community in the American Medical Association (AMA). APCR helps guide national policy and comments on issues impacting your practices. Recently, APCR had the opportunity to work with Health Strategies Insights to conduct a survey on the impacts of step therapy reform on patient access. With the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently finalizing its proposal to give Medicare Advantage plans the option of applying step therapy for Part B drugs, the APCR decided to get a pulse on the impacts to our community.

The survey, conducted by HSI, was administered to fifty physicians - including some APCR members - who administer Part B drugs in their offices. Based on the results of the survey, an infographic was created to be shared with our community. As President of APCR, I’m pleased to have had this opportunity to conduct this research and demonstrate our organization’s value in advocating on behalf of physicians.
