JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The American Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research (APCR) on Wednesday sent a letter to the United States Congress in support of the Senate HELP Committee's introduced legislation, the Opioid Crisis Response Act of 2018 (OCRA).
The correspondence reads, “The Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research (APCR), as a physician organization committed to improving public health through evidence-based treatments, supports and commends the Senate HELP Committee for introducing legislation that addresses the opioid addiction crisis and recognizes addiction as a disease. The Opioid Crisis Response Act of 2018 (OCRA) encourages the research and development of new pain management treatments with less potential for abuse and meaningfully addresses the challenges facing patients in trying to access addiction treatment. The bipartisan policies of OCRA championed by the Senate HELP Committee will embolden scientific innovation to develop lasting solutions to address prescription opioid addiction and we encourage the Energy and Commerce committee to take up complimentary legislation.”
